Ruins of Mossy Castle (in Kelemér)

Ruins of Mossy Castle (in Kelemér)

A pleasant walk south-west through a valley one will cut through the ridge on the road between Kelemér and Putnok and approach the Great Mossy Lake after about 400 meters. Another 200 meters further in the south-west direction will bring you to the Small Mossy Lake. Travelling up the rise a bit further you will encounter the old castle moat where Tamás Pusztai has been leading an archaeological excavation since 2000. The oval castle probably dated from the 14th century, and very little of the ruins remain to see. Researchers were tipped off to its existence by the differences in land elevation and colours of the earth.
